THIRTEEN

As my eyes fluttered open I caught the familiar view of my room, I attempted to stretch. For a brief moment panic shot through my body at the weight of an arm draped across me. Just as quickly came a feeling of relaxation that it was only Soren’s.

He’d spent the entire night.

I deeply inhaled his scent and with it came the enjoyable memory of the night before. Feeling me stir seemed to wake him as well, and his arm gently ran up and down my side. Waves of happiness rolled over me as I pressed my body closer against his. I couldn’t believe that we were - finally - here together like this. Only the thin material of our underwear separated us, and I could feel the growing pressure of his arousal against me.

“Mmmm,” Soren moaned as our hips made contact.

His soft lips brushed the softness of my neck, his stubble gently tickling the skin in its wake.

“Good morning,” he said softly, “What time is it?”

“It’s still early. And I think it might just be my favourite morning on your ship yet.”

“Even though we broke your ‘no contracts with the crew’ rule?”

Maybe that’s what all his hesitation was about.

“Yes,” I grinned, “Though I wouldn’t exactly call this a contract… Pretty sure I was the one that was doing the asking.”

“Well, I’m just glad you decided going out with us last night would be more fun,” he replied, pressing himself against me suggestively as his lips moved lower to my shoulder.

As much as I wanted him again, I knew I couldn’t without telling him how I felt first. I had to admit to him that I did not come out last night for a good time, I came out for him. My feelings, especially after last night, were too strong. Soren was everything I wanted. If he didn’t feel the same, it would only hurt that much more if I waited until ‘after’. As his lips began to trail lower, I sucked in a breath. I knew it was now or never. The words, however, were stuck in my throat. The fear of rejection, something I’d never really experienced before, took over my ability to think straight.

Taking a deep calming breath, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind before I lost my nerve.

“I couldn’t stay with him,” I managed to verbalise.

I could feel Soren’s body grow suddenly rigid beside mine, and his lips stopped their trail on my skin.

“What happened?”

“No, no, it’s nothing like that. It’s just that I…,” I tried to clarify, but my voice trailed.

I knew that I was losing my courage. Soren rubbed my arm encouragingly, patiently waiting for me. There’s no stopping what you’ve started now Emmalise, you might as well just go for it, I told myself.

“I wanted to go out with you all last night. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long, long time. But I wanted you more, Soren. I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anyone,” I admitted, my voice trembling now with the frantic beating of my heart.
